A member of the House of Representatives representing Bukkuyum/Gummi Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, Suleiman Abubakar Gummi, has expressed concern over the recent surge in bandit attacks across the state, describing the situation as alarming and calling for intensified security operations.
The lawmaker made the call in a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Gusau on Monday.
Gummi said the persistent wave of banditry has continued to threaten lives and livelihoods in his constituency and other parts of Zamfara, stressing that the worsening insecurity requires urgent and coordinated action by relevant authorities.
According to him, although he is currently on an official foreign assignment, he has been receiving regular reports on the attacks and has promptly relayed the information to the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for necessary action.
He commended security personnel for their commitment and sacrifices in protecting lives and property despite the challenges, while urging them to adopt more effective strategies to curb the activities of armed groups and restore lasting peace in the state.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to supporting security agencies through the provision of logistics and other necessary assistance to enhance their operational effectiveness.
Gummi also appealed to residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information and to offer prayers for lasting peace and an end to banditry in Zamfara State.
