Enes Kanter Freedom has made a striking claim about the NBA’s off-court culture, warning parents against letting their daughters date professional athletes after alleging that more than 95 per cent of NBA players cheat.

The former Utah Jazz centre shared his views during an appearance on Savannah Chrisley’s podcast Unlocked, recalling an unusual rookie responsibility that gave him an insight into the private lives of his teammates.

Kanter entered the NBA as the third overall pick in the 2011 Draft after playing professionally in Turkey as a teenager. His time with the Jazz apparently exposed him to behaviour that has stayed with him throughout his career.

Enes Kanter explains his warning about NBA players

Kanter revealed that one of his rookie duties was to look after his teammates’ second phones whenever the Jazz travelled to Utah.

He explained: “One of my rookie duties was whenever we travel to Utah, because I was playing in Utah, they all give me their second phones. I had to charge all 12 phones and whenever we go back on the road, I had to bring (them all).”

Kanter said he carried the phones in a large bag before handing them back to the players when the team travelled again.

He also claimed to have witnessed women waiting for NBA players in hotel rooms, prompting his blunt advice to parents.

“To all the parents out there… If I have a daughter, I would not let her date an athlete, especially an NBA player,” Kanter said. “I know some of the stories and we could get to it if you want, but I think over 95 percent — and I’m being nice — of the NBA players cheat.”

His comments follow previous allegations about the league’s off-court culture. During his time with the Boston Celtics in the 2019-20 season, Kanter also described teammates sharing access to a premium OnlyFans account.

He said he declined to participate, explaining that he did not want to watch the content and believed he had “better morals”.

Kanter has never been shy about expressing controversial opinions, and his latest remarks offer another glimpse into his experiences during his NBA career.
