YSU football rolls in home opener

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown State University football team opened the season with a 43-10 victory over Mercyhurst Thursday night.

The Penguins piled up over 480 yards of total offense, and the defense forced four turnovers in the win.

Senior quarterback Beau Brungard threw for 232 yards, rushed for 119, and accounted for five total touchdowns.

Senior running back Jaden Gilbert finished with 89 yards rushing, 31 receiving, and scored twice. Lynn Wyche-El and Bryan Hunt also both caught touchdown passes in the victory.

YSU will travel to Kentucky next Saturday. They kickoff with the Wildcats at 1 p.m. in Lexington.
