YouTube Gold: Georgia Tech-UNLV Had A Great One In The 1990 Final Four

On Thursday, we talked about Duke’s win over Arkansas in the 1990 national semifinals. The other game that night was also really good, as Georgia Tech and UNLV really got after each other.

This was the Lethal Weapon 3 team, starring Brian Oliver, Dennis Scott, and Kenny Anderson, and UNLV, of course, would go on to win the national championship.

They were both really good, highly entertaining teams, and the Yellow Jackets gave the Rebels a better game than a lot of people may have expected.

Tech had a great first half, shooting 67%, and took a 53-46 lead at halftime.

The second half was a different story. That UNLV team was a tremendous defensive squad, as Duke would find out on Monday night, and they really clamped down on the Yellow Jackets.

Scott had scored 20 points in the first half, but Stacy Augmon held him to just one basket for about the first ten minutes of the second half.

UNLV outscored Tech 44-28 in the second half, and held the Yellow Jackets to 35% from the floor.

Even so, Georgia Tech cut the lead to 76-74, but Anderson Hunt hit back-to-back clutch threes to put the game out of reach, ultimately winning, 90-81.
