You Oughta Know - Morissette rocks before Canada's World Cup opener

Canadian singers Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé were the proud performers as Canada got ready to host its first ever men’s World Cup game on Friday.

The co-hosts are facing Bosnia and Herzegovina having previously reached only two men’s World Cups, where they lost every game. Canada did host the women’s version in 2015.

Toronto was given the chance to have its own opening ceremony after Mexico City and actress Salma Hayek put on a show before Thursday’s tournament opener – a 2-0 win over South Africa.

The stands in Canada’s biggest metropolis were far from full for much of the ceremony, and there were even empty seats when the game began.

Morissette – famous for her 1990s songs including “You Oughta Know” – sang the Canadian national anthem while the Bosnian anthem was played on the violin.

Another party – including Katy Perry – will follow in Los Angeles County when fellow co-hosts the US take on Paraguay later.
