“You Had 13 Years to Do the Same”: Fans Slam Cindy Brunson For Questioning Linda Cohn’s Defense of Caitlin Clark After Years of Silence on WNBA

Cindy Brunson came under fire from Caitlin Clark fans after calling out Linda Cohn for defending the Indiana Fever superstar on Sunday. Brunson questioned Cohn, her former ESPN colleague, for not speaking up about the WNBA during their time at the company. Brunson’s comments came after Cohn slammed TV analyst Zena Keita’s months-old take that Raven Johnson should start over Clark.

Keita’s take resurfaced after she faced backlash for claiming that Olivia Miles held the WNBA’s all-time single-season rookie assists record, while it actually belonged to Clark.

Brunson took to X to question Cohn’s absence from the WNBA space, saying:

“Curious @lindacohn where was all of the energy to cover the @wnba while you were at ESPN?!? We worked alongside there for 13 yrs & I don’t recall you using your clout to amplify the league or push for highlights on SportsCenter while the company willfully buried the W product.”

Brunson herself spent 13 years at the company. Several fans called her out for holding Cohn accountable for the lack of WNBA promotion.

“So you had 13 years to do the same, and nothing,” one fan said.

As fans questioned Cindy Brunson over not taking responsibility for promoting the WNBA before Caitlin Clark’s debut, the former ESPN reporter said she didn’t have the same influence as Linda Cohn.

“Wrong and I certainly didn’t have the pull a company veteran like Linda had,” Brunson wrote.

In another X post, Brunson said she watched Cohn fight “tooth and nail” for the NHL, but never saw the same effort from her veteran colleague for the WNBA.

“We anchors pitched story ideas and graphics too in addition to writing our own copy for air,” Brunson said. “I watched her fight tooth & nail for the NHL and got things done. I didn’t witness her doing that for the W.”

Linda Cohn only recently started talking about the WNBA. She’s among the media personnel who have publicly supported Caitlin Clark. Cohn often calls out what she perceives to be biased reporting and questionable officiating against the Indiana Fever superstar.
