World Grand Prix silver for Para-taekwondo Britons

British duo Matt Bush and Amy Truesdale both took silver medals at the Muju 2026 World Taekwondo Para Grand Prix after defeats in their finals.

Bush was beaten by Russia’s Aliaskhab Ramazanov in the men’s K44 +80kg final, while Truesdale was defeated by Uzbekistan’s Guljonoy Naimova in the women’s K44 +65kg.

Bush, 37, tied both his rounds with Ramazanov, but lost the first by virtue of scoring two back kicks against the Russian’s spinning kick.

The scores were again tied 16-16 in the second but the Welshman scored with fewer back kicks than his opponent.

Truesdale meanwhile led both her first and second rounds with 20 seconds remaining, but Naimova rallied to take the bout in two straight rounds.

European champion Bush had qualified for the final as he defeated Turkey’s Adem Arda Ozkul and Russia’s Bilal Lakhiaev in Friday’s tournament in South Korea.

Bush became Britain’s first ever male taekwondo world champion in 2019, just two years after taking up the sport

Truesdale, also 37, had earlier beaten Iran’s Marziyeh Nasrollahi and Greece’s Eleni Papastamatopoulou on route to the final but Naimova gained revenge for her Paralympic final defeat by the Chester native.

Fellow Briton Joseph Lane came away empty handed as he was beaten 2-1 in his quarter final by Mexico’s Luis Mario Najera in the K44 Men’s -80kg competition.
