Miami (FL) football is one of just six teams still undefeated this year. With losses from many of the top teams this week, such as Indiana and Notre Dame, Miami has moved up to the top spot in the AP Top 25.
Now, Mario Cristobal is talking about the ranking and what it means, per Ross Dellinger of Yahoo Sports.
“The only way to play our butts off is to keep our mouths shut,” Cristobal said about being number one.

It was not unanimous that Miami was the top team, and the top three teams are all very tight in the rankings. Miami ended up with 40 total first-place votes and 1697 points overall. Meanwhile, BYU took nine first-place votes and 1675 points overall. Ohio State had nine first-place votes and 1649 votes points overall. Texas Tech also received a first-place vote, but is ranked eighth overall.
Miami has been receiving first-place votes nearly all season. They had one in the preseason poll, as well as one in Week 1, four in Week 2, one in Weeks 3 and 4, and two in Weeks 5 and 6. This week, they had 40 first-place votes, with 15 votes at second, 11 at third, one at fourth, two at fifth, and a single sixth-place vote.
This is the first time since 2002 that Miami was ranked number one. They opened that season as the top-ranked team and held that ranking for the first ten weeks. Oklahoma jumped them in Week 11, but a loss to Texas A&M that week dropped them to fourth, and Miami took the top spot back. They held onto that spot until losing in double overtime to Ohio State in the BCS National Championship.
Miami will put their top ranking on the line this Saturday at home as they host Pitt.
