With 3 days of all-star voting left, Brewers' Brice Turang has a shot

With three days to go in Phase 1 of fan balloting for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, only one Milwaukee Brewers player has a realistic chance to move forward, but he’s definitely in the mix.

Brice Turang has 739,111 votes at second base in the Monday, June 22 voting update released by MLB, a mere 62,000 votes shy of Philadelphia‘s Bryson Stott for second place.

After Phase 1 voting ends at 11 a.m. CT Thursday, the top two finalists at each position will be announced six hours later. Then they’ll advance to head-to-head Phase 2 voting to determine the starter.

Outside of outfield, which features six advancing participants, second base is the closest race in the National League voting. The top Phase 1 vote-getter overall also gets an automatic starting nod in the all-star game, and that’s going to be designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, most likely.

Atlanta‘s Ozzie Albies (972,537), who just had a two-homer game against the Brewers to walk-off Milwaukee on June 20, leads at second base, followed by Stott. But votes will be wiped clean in Phase 2 of voting, which begins June 29 and ends July 2.

Fans can continue to submit up to five ballots each day during the first phase at MLB.com/vote.

Other Brewers in the top five at their position group are William Contreras (fourth at catcher), Jake Bauers (fourth at first base) and Christian Yelich (fourth at designated hitter).

Turang has an .823 OPS with 11 homers, 12 stolen bases and 47 RBIs this season entering the week. If he doesn’t get elected as a starter, he still has a chance to make the all-star team as a reserve through the player balloting process or appointment by MLB, the mechanisms through which the pitching staff and rest of the all-star roster is determined.
