Wild reportedly sign GM Bill Guerin to multi-year extension

Wild president of hockey operations and general manager Bill Guerin has reportedly signed a contract extension with the organization, according to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan.

Guerin, 55, originally joined the Wild in 2019 as the team’s fourth general manager. He signed an extension in 2023 that came with the additional president of hockey operations title.

Following the 2025-26 season, Guerin was named the NHL’s general manager of the year. The Wild finished third in the Central Division with a 46-24-12 record. The 104 point season was the third-best in the Western Conference and sixth-best leaguewide. It also marked the third time Minnesota has eclipsed 100 points in a season during Guerin’s tenure running the organization.

Minnesota also made several notable trades during the 2025-26 season, including the blockbuster deal to land star defenseman Quinn Hughes from Vancouver. Hughes and the organization are currently in the midst of negotiations over a contract extension.

While the Wild have made the postseason in six of the seven seasons Guerin has been leading the organization, they have won just one playoff series in that time. The Wild eliminated Dallas 4-2 in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs in April.

The Wild start the season once again as legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. Their season begins on Oct. 1 in Nashville.
