Why Zion Young could make Ravens’ edge rotation more dangerous

Zion Young does not enter training camp as the biggest name in the Baltimore Ravens‘ edge group, but he has the kind of traits that can make a crowded rotation more dangerous.

The Ravens have reshaped their pass rush around proven production, young talent, and physical upside, and Young fits into the final category. He brings a compelling combination of size, speed, power, and motor, giving Baltimore another developmental rusher who can push for snaps if he turns flashes into consistent production in camp. In a defense that wants waves of pressure instead of relying on one player to carry the rush, that matters.

Trey Hendrickson’s presence changes the entire room. His arrival gives Baltimore a proven edge rusher who can command attention, set the standard for preparation, and force defenses to account for him on obvious passing downs. That can create cleaner opportunities for the rest of the rotation, especially younger rushers who may not have to face the same level of blocking attention. If Young earns trust, Hendrickson’s impact could help create the kind of one-on-one situations that allow a player with Young’s athletic profile to become disruptive.

Young’s path will depend on how quickly he proves he can win with more than effort. His motor is valuable, and his power gives him a chance to collapse pockets, but the Ravens will need to see refinement in his rush plan, edge discipline, and ability to finish plays.
