The Minnesota Twins are trending in the wrong direction in a weak American League. 

Minnesota is eight games below .500 and 3-7 in their last 10 games. Despite their recent slide, they are just three games back of the third and final AL Wild Card spot. 

Regardless, the Twins should seriously consider trading right-handed starting pitcher Joe Ryan, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer wrote. 

“The Twins have no reasons to not listen on Joe Ryan, but interested parties had better be prepared to offer multiple top-100 prospects,” Rymer wrote. “Even if he’s more of a No. 2 than a No. 1, we’re still talking a 1.010 WHIP and a 5.5 K/BB ratio over the last three seasons. And no matter what, he won’t be a free agent until after 2027.” 

Ryan is an All-Star caliber pitcher who could turn a fringe postseason team into a potential threat to make a deep run. 

The Twins are a rebuilding club that will receive a better return for Ryan with one and a half years of control than they will next summer.

Prospects acquired in a potential trade could help the Twins accelerate their rebuild and turn them into contenders sometime down the road. 

Even if they did make the postseason in 2026, how far would the rest of their rotation, headlined by Ryan and Taj Bradley, take them? 

It may be best to strike while the iron is hot.
