The 2026 World Cup is upon us, and England fans are no doubt excited to see how far their team can go under a new manager.
Gareth Southgate previously took the Three Lions to two European Championship finals and the semi-final of a World Cup, with Thomas Tuchel now taking the reins for the 2026 tournament.
Ahead of England’s first game next week, though, there are a number of rules in place that English fans must follow when it comes to displaying flags on their homes, or they could be fined.
England fans could be fined if flags are not displayed correctly
In a Facebook post, the Sun Sport say that fans could be fined up to £2,500 for displaying an England flag on their homes if certain rules are not followed.
Should the rules not be followed and fans ignore requests from councils to remove flags, they could be hit with a fine.
The rules, as laid out by the Sun in their post, are as follows: “Only one flag on a vertical flagpole attached to the roof of a building is permitted, according to the Government’s Flying Flags Guide.
“Flags attached to the sides of buildings must not exceed two square meters in size.
“Those wanting to fly a larger flag must attach it to the roof in order for it to adhere to the guidelines.
“Flags can also not be displayed alongside any advertising, additional text or logos and can’t obstruct official transport signage such as road and railway signs.”
England will get their World Cup campaign underway on Wednesday, June 17, taking on Croatia in a 9pm BST kick-off.
They will then face off with Ghana on June 23 before rounding out their group campaign against Panama.
Barring perhaps their last opponents, it is a fairly tough group for the Three Lions to navigate.
