Former WTA World No. 1 Maria Sharapova was recently spotted at the 2026 US Open presenting the champion’s trophy to Elena Rybakina.

Sharapova, who turned professional on her 14th birthday, is now 39. During her legendary career, she won 645 matches, 36 WTA titles, five Grand Slams, and a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Since retiring in 2020, she has stayed close to tennis while pursuing entrepreneurial interests.

Sharapova’s first business venture was Sugarpova

As an active player on the WTA Tour, Sharapova began flexing her entrepreneurial muscle with the development of Sugarpova, the candy company she started in 2012.

While the company still has an Instagram page, its last post was in 2021. Sharapova has never addressed the mysterious demise of Sugarpova.

She has pursued a diversified portfolio after shuttering Sugarpova

Sharapova has since diversified her investment and business portfolio with her longtime boyfriend Alexander Gilkes with whom she shares a son named Theodore born in 2022. The couple has a combined estimated net of over $200 million in 2025.

Her recent collaboration is with Williams Sonoma for a cookware line.

Best tennis collaboration

Many will say one of Sharapova’s best tennis-related moments in recent years is surprising the world at her 2025 International Tennis Hall of Fame induction by having former rival Serena Williams introduce her.

Others would argue the Christmas video with Jannik Sinner is far superior because it showcases the silly side of both their personalities.
