The International Cricket Council (ICC) will unveil the schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup in Cape Town on Thursday, October 1. The event will mark the one-year countdown to the tournament and will also see the release of tickets for the matches.
The World Cup will begin on October 2 next year and will conclude on November 21, 2027.
Ten of the 14 teams that will take part in the tournament have secured their places as of the September 30 qualification cut-off. Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have received automatic berths, while eight teams have qualified based on the ICC ODI rankings.
Namibia are also co-hosts, but they do not have an automatic qualification because they are not a full-member nation of the ICC.
India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will join South Africa and Zimbabwe in the tournament. The remaining four spots will be decided through the Qualifiers, which are scheduled to take place early next year.
Two-time champions West Indies will also have to go through the qualification route to secure a place in next year’s World Cup.
According to an ICC release earlier this year, the 2027 World Cup will have three stages before the semi-finals and final.
The tournament will begin with a Super Series involving the three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualified sides. They will play each other once in a round-robin format, with the top team advancing to the next stage.
Round 2 will feature 30 matches, with 12 teams split into two groups of six. Each team will play the others in its group in a round-robin format.
The top three teams from each group, along with the next best-placed team across the two groups, will progress to the Super 7 stage.
The Super 7 stage will feature 21 round-robin matches. The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, the team finishing first in the Super 7 standings will face the fourth-placed team, while the second-placed side will take on the third-placed team. The winners of the two semi-finals will meet in the final.
