The Tennessee Titans have not look great to start the Robert Saleh era in 2026. Tennessee is 0-3 to start the year despite playing opponents close to two consecutive games. Now questions are flying about why QB Cam Ward is not playing better despite having a much better coaching staff.
Saleh was asked about how Ward is developing during a recent interview. He gave an honest assessment while looking ahead at Week 4.
“What you see early in games, and it’s getting later and later in games too, you see him comfortable in the pocket. You see him trusting the offensive line,” Saleh told reporters on Wednesday via Ari Meirov. “Then later in the game you kind of see him revert back to some old habits. But I do think he’s getting better in that regard. I think he’s starting to really appreciate the offensive line, because I think they are doing a really good job protecting him and I think he’s building that trust.”

Ward has not looked comfortable in Tennessee’s new offense just yet. In fact, he has yet to throw for over 200 passing yards in a game so far this season.
Saleh also noted that some of Cam’s bad habits likely stem from his rookie season. After all, he was sacked a whopping 55 times in 2025. It may take some time for Ward to truly gain confidence with a new setup.
“You’ve got to remember the young man was sacked however many times last year so I’m sure there’s some PTSD there,” Saleh added. “But he’s getting better, he’s trusting it. His footwork is lasting him longer into games if that makes sense. But yeah, from an accuracy standpoint, decision-making standpoint, everything starts with your feet at the quarterback position.”
The Titans still seem committed to developing Ward into the future. But if Tennessee continues to struggle, they may be tempted by a new rookie quarterback during the 2027 NFL Draft.
It will be exciting to see if Ward can live up to expectations throughout the rest of the season.
