What Happened to Olivia Miles? Latest Injury Update as Lynx Star Exits Game vs. Valkyries (Aug. 19)
Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles went down with an ankle injury in Wednesday’s showdown against the Golden State Valkyries. Miles sustained the injury in the fourth quarter after stepping on teammate Napheesa Collier’s foot while sliding on a defensive possession.
Miles rolled her ankle, limped to the sideline and lay on the floor in pain. The players and staff surrounded her as she tried to get back up. Miles then headed to the bench and eventually to the locker room.
Here’s the video of her injury and the entire incident:
Miles was having another exceptional game, further fueling her MVP case. She had 20 points in 30 minutes of action. Miles shot 8 of 10 from the field, including 3 of 5 from deep. She also grabbed five rebounds, dished seven assists, made two steals and two blocks.
The Lynx led 65-55 when Miles left the floor.
Olivia Miles suffered a similar ankle injury about a month ago
Olivia Miles may have aggravated an existing issue. About a month ago, Miles stepped on a player’s foot and rolled the same left ankle.
She was helped off the floor in that July 15 game against the Los Angeles Sparks. Miles didn’t return to the court, but was back for the contest against the Portland Fire on July 19.
The Lynx play on Friday again, so it’s unlikely that Miles will be back as early as last time. Minnesota is also playoff-bound with a 30-7 record. The Lynx moved a step closer to locking the No. 1 seed after beating the Valkyries 77-66.
With Napheesa Collier in the lineup, coach Cheryl Reeve will likely be willing to give Olivia Miles an extended rest.
In Wednesday’s clash, Collier had 18 points and eight rebounds on 5 of 12 shots. Meanwhile, Kayla McBride had another solid game with 20 points on 6 of 13 shooting, including 3 of 7 from deep.
