The New York Knicks’ championship celebration has already moved from basketball into politics, with Boomer Esiason turning James Dolan’s next move into a pointed White House talking point.

The Knicks ended their long title drought by beating the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals, giving New York its first championship since 1973.

Their parade and public celebration are the obvious next steps, but Esiason looked beyond the usual victory tour because of Dolan’s relationship with Donald Trump.

That is where the comment became more than a simple question about whether champions should visit the White House.

Boomer Esiason says he cannot wait for James Dolan White House decision

In a clip shared by Awful Announcing on X, Esiason raised the idea of Dolan telling the Knicks they should visit Trump after winning the NBA title.

“When does Jim Dolan tell his team that we’re going down to visit my good friend Donald Trump in the White House?” Esiason asked.

He added, “That’s what I can’t wait for. And hopefully they all go. Hopefully, they go just like they’re doing everything that they’re doing here.”

The edge in the comment comes from the relationship around it. Trump attended the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden as Dolan’s guest, and the Knicks owner has long been linked to the president through New York business, politics and basketball.

Esiason’s line sounded like a sarcastic dig because it imagined Dolan turning a team celebration into a politically charged visit. For a championship roster, that kind of trip is rarely just ceremonial anymore.

Boomer Esiason says Knicks White House visit would honor Donald Trump fan link

Esiason also made the case for why he would like to see the Knicks accept the White House stage, tying the moment to both Trump’s Knicks fandom and the country’s 250th birthday.

“I would love to see them be honored at the White House, given this is the 250th birthday of our great nation, wouldn’t it be wonderful to see the Knicks standing there with a huge Knicks fan who happens to be the president of the United States,” Esiason concluded.

The comment works because Trump’s connection to the Knicks is not abstract. He is a New Yorker, has publicly backed the team, and was part of the Finals spectacle at MSG, where his presence became another storyline around Dolan and the franchise.

That also explains why Esiason’s remark landed with a wink. He was not only talking about a traditional championship invite, he was pointing at the awkward theater of Dolan, Trump, and a Knicks roster being pulled into the same photo opportunity.

The Knicks have earned every basketball celebration after their title run. The question Esiason raised is whether their victory lap will now include the most politically loaded stop in American sports.
