Wharton ‘never really thought about’ leaving Palace

Adam Wharton insisted his commitment remains with Crystal Palace, saying he had “never really thought about” transfer interest in the last window.

Wharton has made 101 appearances since joining from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024, providing 12 assists and scoring once for the Eagles.

Since his arrival in South London, only departed duo Daniel Munoz and Eberechi Eze (15 each) have recorded more assists for Palace, though Wharton leads the way in passes ending in the final third (1,257).

The 22-year-old played a crucial role in Palace’s recent FA Cup and Conference League triumphs, though he did miss out on Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Manchester City were reportedly interested in Wharton in the last transfer window, but instead they signed Elliot Anderson, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Enzo Fernandez, after Palace refused to sell the midfielder.

And Wharton insisted he did not concern himself with any transfer rumours as he is fully focused on his Palace future.

“I never really thought about transfers this summer,” he said in a press conference before Palace’s Europa League match with Lech Poznan.

“I stay very far away from it. My agent doesn’t really tell me anything; I don’t want to know anything. If I’m not going to move, there’s no need for me to have any information.

“I never thought about a different club. I was always here training, looking forward to a new season, the gaffer, new players coming in.

“I have three years left at Palace. For all I know, I’m here for three years unless a club comes in or there’s another contract. I take it week by week, game by game. That helps me get the best out of myself and concentrate on what is next.

“There’s never really anything [more] to it. I’m happy to be playing games and trying to improve.”
