Wednesday Seacoast Roundup: Portsmouth golf remains unbeaten, more results

MANCHESTER – The Portsmouth High School golf team continued its unbeaten season with a four-team Division I sweep at Derryfield Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Senior Grey Gagnon shot a medalist round of even-par 34 as Portsmouth had a team score of 192, beating Hanover (199), Spaulding (205) and Memorial (277). Portsmouth is now 27-0 on the season.

Gus Baker fired a 2-over-par 36 for the Clippers, while Thijs Renna had a 37, Will Renna a 40, and Grant Haberstroh a 45.

Dover wins tiebreaker, improves to 22-2

DOVER — Dover edged Bishop Guertin in a tiebreaker to win a four-team Division I match at Cochecho Country Club.

The Green Wave and Cardinals both finished with team scores of 192, but Dover (22-2) claimed the victory on the strength of its sixth golfer score. Exeter was third at 195 and Manchester Central fourth at 258.

Dover senior Collin Moe earned medalist honors with an even-par 35, while Sam MacGregor and Declan Fitzgerald each shot 38, Des Fennessy carded a 40, and Ty Buchanan and Brayden Patel both finished with rounds of 41.

Exeter’s Nolan Engler shot a 37, while teammate Cooper Pettigrove shot a 38, and Chase Jumper, Max Henry and Ben Smith all shot a 40.

Winnacunnet second in four-team match

HAMPTON — Freshman Naw Whar led Winnacunnet with an even-par 35 in a four-team match at Sagamore North Hampton Golf Club.

Concord won with a team score of 183, beating Winnacunnet (191), Salem (193) and Nashua North (201).

Winnacunnet senior Will Koutalidis shot a 36, followed by Colby Swasey (39), Mason Anastas (40), Norah Fleming (41), Liam McNally (42) and Kevin O’Connor (43).

St. Thomas sweeps regular-season finale

LOUDON — Senior Ryan Allard earned medalist honors with a 1-under-par 35 to lead St. Thomas Aquinas to a four-team Division II regular-season ending sweep at Loudon Country Club.

St. Thomas had a team score of 197, beating Kingswood (225), Alvirne (237) and Merrimack Valley (241).

Jack Weigold shot 39 for the Saints, while Grant Baker carded a 40, Finn Perry a 41, and Cooper Coate and Griffin Rendall 42 and 43, respectively.

Windham 1

HAMPTON – The Warriors scored four goals in the second half, including three in the fourth quarter and improved to 10-0 on the season with this Division I win.

McKinley Fowler led the Warriors with three goals and one assist, while Sofia Donatelli had two goals and one assist. Fiona McAfee also scored for WHS, while Avery Wood had one assist.

Cape Elizabeth 10

Traip Academy 0

KITTERY, Maine – Goalie Madison Evans had 41 saves for Class C Traip in its loss to Class B Cape Elizabeth. Freshman Ava Darling had two defensive saves for the Rangers.

Berwick Academy 7

Gould Academy 1

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Freshman Laila Clarke scored two goals, while five other players scored one each for Berwick Academy in this non-league contest.

Maybelle Hopkins had one goal and two assists in the win, while Marlo Elwell had one goal and one assist, and Stella Spencer, Sophia Hobey and Frankie Cormier McFarlane all scored one goal.

Newmarket 6

Holy Family 4

MANCHESTER – Emma Barr, Arianna Moulton, Dimitra Zygouri, Sofia Belllamente, Grace Orcutt and Avery Szelog all scored for Newmarket in its Division IV win.

Moulton and Lylah Searle both had two assists, and Lizzie Deloge had one. Naomi Powell played well for the Mules, while Ashlyn Szelog was in goal.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Phoebe Yaris, Sophia DeSimone, Carly Shumway and Tatum Sloper all scored for Berwick Academy (5-0).

Marshwood 0

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Jack Eardley had 13 saves for Marshwood (3-4-1) in this Class A South tie.

Portsmouth Christian Academy 3

St. Thomas Aquinas 0

DOVER – Caroline Braman and Bea Monahan both had seven kills as PCA improved to 9-1 with this Division III win.

Individual set scores were 25-21, 26-24, 25-16.

Braman added two aces and two blocks, while Monahan contributed two aces and eight digs. Lauryn Flynn chipped in with six kills, three aces and three digs for the Eagles, while teammate Molly Marquis finished with five kills, two aces and four digs, Lexi Jordan had 27 assists and four aces, and Dylan Anderson had five kills and two blocks.

Hadley DeStefano had five kills and 10 digs for STA (9-2), while Jules Stowell had 11 digs and seven assists.

Oyster River 1

Portsmouth 0

PORTSMOUTH – Shriya Mavani, Senna Kecy and Caroline Virgin all played well for Portsmouth.
