‘We have not finished yet’ – De Zerbi expects more Tottenham transfers

Roberto De Zerbi insists Tottenham are still in the market to bring more players to the club despite already making several additions to their squad this summer. 

Tottenham are preparing for their first full season under De Zerbi after the Italian helped retain their Premier League status on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign.

But despite back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League, Tottenham have been able to bring in some big names in order to try and overcome their recent struggles.

Sandro Tonali joined from Newcastle United in a reported £100m deal, while Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke have signed from West Ham and Brighton, respectively.

Tottenham have also welcomed Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers, while also tying down Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro, Ben Davies and Antonin Kinsky to new contracts. 

Cristian Romero is expected to complete a permanent move to Atletico Madrid this summer, and De Zerbi stressed there was still the need to bring new faces to North London. 

“In the transfer market, we have not finished yet [with] the players who will arrive,” De Zerbi said, speaking to the Men in Blazers Network.

“We are looking forward to starting another season with, I don’t know [different] ambitions, but with different results.”

“The club has been great because they closed [deals for] very, very important players. I think we have not finished yet.

“Okay, we spent money, but the other clubs did the same or more in the past. To compete in the Premier League, you first need [the] level of the players.

“The ambitions of the owner of the club, of the board, of the people who decide behind me are very important and very high, so we have to find the condition to build a strong team, a stronger team than the last seasons, to compete again for the top of the table.”

De Zerbi is also expected to welcome back both Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski this season, with the pair having sustained long-term injuries. 

The Italian added that he wanted the Tottenham supporters to recognise his side not only through their style ​of play but ​also through ⁠their commitment and character.

“I would like when we go to play in the Premier League that the people ​recognise one’s soul, passion, value of the player,” De Zerbi added.

“The ⁠qualities of the players are not enough.

“If you don’t put something more, something of yourself, something you feel inside of you, it’s very ⁠tough ​to now compete with the top teams ​in the world, in the Premier League.”

De Zerbi has overseen an unbeaten pre-season so far, with Tottenham winning three of their five matches, including a triumph over London rivals Chelsea. 

They face Hoffenheim in two friendlies this weekend before beginning their Premier League campaign away to Brentford on August 22.
