Spurs to open vs. Thunder, face Knicks on Christmas

The Spurs will open the 2026-27 season with a high-profile rematch, with another to follow on Christmas Day.

The club’s Western Conference title defense will begin with a home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 20, part of a nationally televised triple-header on NBC. The Spurs defeated the Thunder in a contentious seven-game conference finals series during their run to last season’s NBA Finals.

Christmas Day will find Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs on the road at New York, facing a Knicks team that bested them for an NBA championship in June. It will mark the Spurs’ third consecutive appearance on Christmas, and the second in three seasons in the Big Apple.

The Spurs’ second designated “home” game of the season will come Oct. 23 against Houston — to be played at the Moody Center in Austin. It will mark the Spurs’ fifth straight season playing a regular-season contest in the state capital, but the first time they have made the trek up Interstate 35 before February.

The trio of games were announced Tuesday morning as part of the NBA’s week-long schedule rollout.

The NBA Cup game slate is set to be unveiled Wednesday, with the full 2026-27 schedule to be released Thursday.
