INDIANAPOLIS — Carson Hocevar won the Brickyard 400 pole and led the race early but his day will be remembered for flipping off Corey Heim at 180 miles per hour late in Stage 2.
Heim would win the race; Hocevar finished ninth.
Hocevar had pitted from the lead in Stage 1 but got caught up in traffic and couldn’t make up the ground he lost.

He eventually fell a lap down in Stage 2 and couldn’t get past Heim, which led to the high-speed bird as Heim was pitting.
“He’s No. 1,” Hocevar told Dustin Long after the race with a laugh. “He won. It’s fine. People don’t like each other. We race really hard. He does a super job with (his car). I look forward to being in front of him and maybe holding him up.”
