The Golden State Warriors had an up-and-down offseason that was full of excitement until it turned into absolute disgracefulness. Golden State was projected to go all in for LeBron James and Anthony Davis at the beginning of free agency.
However, it was like a fever dream that didn’t last long at all. The Warriors would then go on to sign familiar faces.
“The Warriors are officially running it back despite missing the playoffs last season. Golden State re-signed Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton II this summer,” NBA writer Jake Weinbach posted.
Despite all of the letdown, the Warriors were still able to lock up the franchise superstar they have had for over the last decade. Steph Curry agreed to an extension before the start of training camp.
“Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension, tying the franchise legend to the only organization he has ever known through his 20th NBA season, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday. The deal includes a player option in the final season (2028-29), according to sources,” ESPN’s Anthony Slater wrote.
Curry’s goal with Golden State is to still win more championships. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley made a trade proposal that sends Kristaps Porzingis, Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody, and draft capital to the Chicago Bulls for Norman Powell and Jalen Smith.
“Golden State Warriors receive: Norman Powell (trade-eligible on Dec. 15) and Jalen Smith. Chicago Bulls receive: Kristaps Porziņģis, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski and a 2028 1st-round pick (top-4 protected),” Buckley wrote.
This would give the Warriors two reliable guys who could come in and immediately make an impact. Curry would also have another high-percentage shooter alongside him in their already-great offense.
Powell and Smith are currently on contracts that combine for $71 million. Golden State is trying to put together a roster that can make one last championship push, and this could certainly help. Curry’s time is running out, and so is the championship timeline.
