Four Class 2A teams in Open Division in our FHSAA football playoffs

If the Florida High School athletic Association football playoffs were to start after Week 7, the Open Division would have a strong Class 2A vibe.

Four of top eight teams in the MaxPreps rankings — Chaminade-Madonna, Carol City, The First Academy and Cardinal Newman — are from Class 2A. The MaxPreps rankings were updated on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Carol City and The First Academy both rejoined the top eight after Week 7. Carol City’s inclusion was surprising considering it jumped more than 30 spots in the rankings after losing 10-9 to Grayson (Georgia).

Having four teams in from one class would have a major ripple effect on the rest of Class 2A as No. 5 Bolles would become the top overall seed in the bracket.
