Warriors land outside the top-20 in The Ringer's preseason NBA power rankings

One of the first signs the new season is nearing is the release of preseason power rankings. With NBA training camp around the corner, the power rankings are beginning to roll in, starting with The Ringer dropping their preseason rankings for the 2026-27 NBA season.

For the Golden State Warriors, the Steph Curry-led veteran group landed just outside the top-20 in the “Sad Play-In Hopefuls” tier. The Ringer’s Michael Pina doesn’t seem to have much hope for Golden State going into the new 2026-27 campaign, listing them at No. 22 overall and writing, “There’s pretty much no logical reason to feel optimistic about these Warriors.”

It’s so hard to see everyone else on this talent-deprived ghost ship staying healthy enough to make noise in the Western Conference. Draymond Green is 36 years old. Al Horford is 40. Kristaps Porzingis moves like he’s 43. But for all the doom and gloom that comes when a curtain is about to close, there will still be plenty of games where all those guys see the floor, execute a gorgeous brand of basketball, put their pride on the line, and give themselves a chance to win.

The Warriors are joined by the Portland Trail Blazers and the New Orleans Pelicans in the Sad Play-In Hopeful tier, with other Western Conference teams like the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz ranking ahead of the Golden State outside the top-15 in The Ringer’s Power Rankings.

Outside of the addition of first-round pick Yaxel Lendeborg and veterans Georges Niang and Brandon Williams, the Warriors are bringing back a very similar roster that finished 37-45, and missed the postseason with a loss in the play-in tournament. However, this year, the Warriors will be missing both Jimmy Butler (knee) and Moses Moody (knee) as they rehab from injuries that ended their season last year.

The Warriors will have to lean on Curry and Draymond Green alongside Brandin Podziemski, Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford in another tough edition of the Western Conference with teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets at the top.
