J.K. Dobbins injury: More good news for Broncos' running back

Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins “suffered leg cramps” against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Dobbins will be monitored as the team returns to practice this week, but there is optimism that the club “dodged a serious setback,” according to Klis. That is the latest positive update for Dobbins after he left Sunday’s 20-13 win over the Jaguars with what the team described as a hamstring injury.

James Palmer of the NFL on Prime reported on Sunday evening that Dobbins suffered a “slight hamstring issue,” and The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday that Dobbins is “good” after the injury scare.

With Dobbins sidelined and RJ Harvey also out with a hamstring injury in Week 2, Denver leaned on rookie Jonah Coleman, who totaled 58 yards and the game-winning touchdown on 13 touches.

“So yesterday, RJ was out, and then J.K. got nicked up and wasn’t able to finish,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said during his Monday conference call. “None of that today on Monday is at a place where we’re — I think all three of those players we’re discussing can be bell cow, handle a majority of the carries. Yes, I think there’s a lot ahead of us this week relative to who our runners are going to be.”

The Broncos are now preparing to host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football in Week 3. Denver will release its first injury report of the week following Wednesday’s practice, and we might learn about Dobbins and Harvey then. Even if the two running backs are able to return for SNF, Coleman figures to be more involved going forward after his strong performance on Sunday.
