The Golden State Warriors have agreed to sign guard Brandin Podziemski to a five-year, $110 million extension, according to multiple reports on Saturday morning. ESPN’s Shams Charania was first to report on the extension.
Podziemski, 23, was entering the final year of his rookie deal after the Dubs took him with the No. 19 overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft. The guard has started just under half of his games played in three seasons so far, averaging 11.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Podziemski averaged a career-high 13.8 points per game last season, a year in which he played in all 82 games for Golden State.
According to Charania and Anthony Slater, a longtime Warriors reporter now at ESPN, Podziemski’s new deal starts with an $18.9 million salary in the 2027-28 season, includes a mutual option for the 2031-32 season and has a trade kicker. Had Podziemski reached restricted free agency, the Warriors would have had to keep a salary cap slot for him at $17 million, so the new deal puts a rather small dent into Golden State’s expected cap space next summer.
