Vote for Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week for May 31-June 6

The week of May 31-June 6 saw the field set for the 2026 IGHSAU high school girls soccer state tournament.

One team from the Ames area made it through to the state tournament, with Gilbert headed back for the first time since 2023 after defeating Bondurant-Farrar in a regional championship game on June 5.

Ames came close to qualifying for state in 4A. The No. 14 Little Cyclones fell to No. 4 Waukee in a 2-1 battle on June 5.

It was also another busy week of high school softball featuring teams from the Ames area.

Here are the Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week nominees for the week of May 31-June 6. AmesTrib.com readers vote to determine the winner, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Platts had an impressive showing for the 2A No. 5 Gilbert soccer team during a 2-0 regional semifinal win over Nevada on June 2 and a 3-1 regional final win over Bondurant-Farrar on June 5.

She scored one goal against Nevada and assisted on all three Tiger goals during the victory over Bondurant-Farrar to help send the Tigers to state.

Badding was clutch for the 3A No. 14 Ames girls soccer team during a 4-0 regional semifinal victory over Sioux City East on June 2.

She scored two goals against the Black Raiders to send the Little Cyclones to the regional finals, where they dropped a 2-1 battle at No. 4 Waukee.

Casey had a nice night with the bat for the Nevada softball team during an 11-3 Heart of Iowa Conference victory over Perry on June 3.

She went 2-for-3 with one run and three RBIs for the Cubs. She also was 2-for-4 during a 6-2 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden on June 2.

Peters turned in three strong shutout pitching performances for the Collins-Maxwell softball team during the week.

She fired a one-hitter in a 4-0 victory over BCLUW June 1, gave up just three hits and one walk with 12 strikeouts in a 7-0 win over GMG on June 3 and allowed just one hit with 10 strikeouts and three walks in a 5-0 victory over Dunkerton June 5.

Carlson hit the ball well for the Roland-Story softball team during an 8-7 victory over Greene County on June 1 and an 8-0 shutout win over Forest City on June 2.

She was 2-for-4 with a double, run, steal and two RBIs in the victory over Greene County. She went 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs and one RBI in the victory over Forest City.
