Vikings Signing LB/S Jamal Adams

On the eve of training camp officially getting underway in Eagan, the Minnesota Vikings have made a signing that can best be labeled as. . .interesting.

Adams comes with a significant pedigree, as he garnered First-Team All-Pro honors in 2019 and Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2018 and 2020. He was drafted by the New York Jets with the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and played for them until 2019, when he was traded for two first-round picks (among other compensation) to the. . .well, would you look at that. . .the Seattle Seahawks. Nolan Teasley was a part of the Seattle front office when that trade was made, so there’s your connection if you’re into looking for such things.

Adams signed a big contract extension with the Seahawks ahead of the 2021 season, a four-year, $72 million deal that made him the highest-paid safety in NFL history at the time. Unfortunately, he didn’t really live up to the deal, as in 2022 he suffered a torn labrum in Week 1 that caused him to miss the entire season. Adams only appeared in nine games in 2023 with five starts, and was released by the Seahawks in March of 2024.

In 2024, Adams made stops in both Tennessee and Detroit. With the Titans, he played in only three games before being placed on injured reserve and requesting his release. He played in just two games with the Lions and was released in January.

Adams then spent the 2025 season with the Las Vegas Raiders, reuniting with his former coach from Seattle, Pete Carroll. He also switched positions from safety to linebacker. He avoided the injury bug, playing in all seventeen games, only starting four. He had 45 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.

I’ve gotta tell you, folks. . .I’m not sure how Adams fits into the Vikings defense as things stand right now. I mean, I’m sure if anyone can figure out a role for someone like Adams, it’s Brian Flores and his mad scientist tendencies, but we’ll have to see what, if anything, Adams has left in the tank going into this season.
