Vaibhav Sooryavanshi does not get another shot at proving himself when India face England in Saturday’s series-closing fifth T20I in Southampton, following a challenging start to his international journey.
The 15-year-old has been dropped from the playing XI, with Sanju Samson recalled in his place. The teenager made his debut at Old Trafford but couldn’t convert his start into a big score. Even so, his quickfire 14 off 10 balls reflected the same fearless batting style that helped him rack up 776 runs during this year’s IPL, a performance that earned him the Orange Cap at just 15 years old.

His next outing followed a similar pattern, falling for 13 that included two crisp sixes, before a testing bouncer from Jofra Archer got the better of him.
That pattern repeated itself in the fourth T20I, where Archer dismissed him once again, this time for 15 off 10 balls, after Sooryavanshi mistimed a hook shot off another short delivery straight into the hands of a fielder at mid-on.

Sooryavanshi has been left out of India’s playing XI at Southampton and will not bat in the fifth T20I. Sanju Samson returns to open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma, restoring the left-right balance India have lacked at the top throughout the series.
