UO freshman All-American Angel Laya reportedly enters transfer portal

Freshman program record holder and All-American outfielder Angel Laya is reportedly seeking a transfer from Oregon baseball.

The true freshman has put his name in the transfer portal, according to multiple reports but first reported by On3.

Laya started 59 games for the Ducks last season while hitting for a .296 batting average with a freshman program record 14 home runs. The Venezuelan-born athlete who went to high school in San Diego also knocked in 47 runs and was a stalwart near the top of Oregon‘s order as a outfielder.

Laya was named a freshman All-American by Perfect Game and was also a Big Ten all-freshman selection. Baseball America ranked Laya as its No. 10 overall prospect for the 2028 MLB Draft and the freshman will be one of the most coveted prospects in the portal this offseason.

The news comes after the Ducks advanced to the super regional round of NCAAs for the third time over the last four seasons but came up short in its pursuit of the Men’s College World Series in Omaha.
