The university said the panel is expected to submit its final findings and recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor, after which a final decision, including possible criminal prosecution, may be considered.

Student Referred to Examination Misconduct Committee

The student involved in the incident, Chikamso Favour Okechukwu, has also been referred to the university’s Examination Misconduct Committee, according to the statement.

The referral will enable the university to address the alleged examination misconduct through its established procedures.

The university had earlier condemned the reported assault on the lecturer and emphasised that allegations of misconduct should be handled through due process rather than violence or self-help.

The latest development therefore separates the disciplinary issues surrounding the alleged examination misconduct from the unresolved allegations of sexual harassment and assault.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated his administration’s commitment to staff and student welfare, transparency and fair hearing, while maintaining the university’s position of zero tolerance for unethical practices.

The outcome of the investigation is expected to clarify the remaining allegations and determine whether further disciplinary or legal action will be taken.
