UN alarmed by increasing death toll in Middle East

Fofana mentioned the case of a two-year-old child reportedly killed alongside the parents in Qeshm Island, urging all parties to comply with obligations under international humanitarian law.

“The region and the world cannot afford more war. The fighting must stop,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated, calling for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab.

The UN demands a ceasefire in the Gulf, warning that the conflict is driving global instability, disrupting trade, straining supply chains, increasing food and energy prices, and the risk of hunger and poverty.
