Udinese agrees David Alaba deal ahead of medical tests in Rome

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the 34-year-old is expected in Rome for medical tests on Wednesday. Udinese will proceed with the signing if those examinations provide reassurance over his physical condition after several injury-disrupted seasons.

Alaba spent 13 months sidelined after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in December 2023, and his return brought limited playing time. He made 15 appearances across all competitions for Madrid last season, totaling 505 minutes.

Madrid announced his departure in May, bringing a five-season spell to an end. Alaba made 131 appearances and won 11 trophies during that period, including two Champions League titles. He started the 2022 final victory over Liverpool before injuries restricted his involvement in later campaigns.

For Udinese, the appeal is clear: a left-footed defender with experience of organizing a back line at the highest level and the technical ability to help build possession. A first spell in Serie A would give Alaba the chance to establish a regular role again, though his recent workload makes the fitness checks especially important.

His free-agent status removes the need to negotiate a fee with Madrid. The remaining work concerns the examinations and contractual formalities; the reports have not disclosed the proposed salary or contract length, and an official confirmation of the signing is still awaited.
