Leeds United Under-21s kick off the new season with a Premier League Cup clash away against Stoke City Under-21s.
Joining the Whites and the Potters in the group stages are Stockport County U21s and Charlton Athletic U21s, with Scott Gardner’s side aiming to secure progression to the knockout rounds after the six matches.
It has been a very productive summer at Thorp Arch for the team, who have competed well in several friendlies against elite Academy teams and more experienced, senior opposition.
A number of players also travelled with the first team to the United States for the pre-season tour and featured against Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool, before then facing RB Leipzig at Elland Road last weekend.
Last campaign, a young Whites team finished 25th in the congested Premier League 2 standings, seven points adrift of Stoke, but didn’t compete in the Premier League Cup.
The most recent meeting between the clubs in Staffordshire came back in 2024 with Luca Thomas on the scoresheet in a 1-1 draw.
Action from Newcastle Town gets underway at 7pm.
