Troops of Sector 2 have raided suspected terrorist hideouts around Gumki in Arewa Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, forcing the terrorists to retreat towards the Nigeria-Niger border.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of September 14, 2026, when troops from 1 Battalion moved into the Gumki area following information about suspected terrorist camps.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama, a security expert, that the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle during the operation.
“Unable to withstand the troops’ offensive, the terrorists reportedly withdrew from the area, allowing the troops to exploit the location and recover weapons, ammunition and other items,” he shared.
The troops recovered one AK-47 rifle with an extra magazine, one PKT machine-gun magazine, 187 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 PKT ammunition and 14 rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm special ammunition.
“Troops also recovered four motorcycles, two mobile phones, combat kits, assorted charms and the sum of ₦87,000,” he added.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to destroy terrorist hideouts and restrict the movement of armed groups in communities close to the Niger Republic border.
The troops are continuing clearance operations and surveillance in the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or returning to the affected locations.
