Troops arrest suspected ISWAP informant in Yobe

Nigerian troops of the Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected informant of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, during a stop-and-search operation in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

This was disclosed in a post on X on Tuesday by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in Lake Chad region.

Makama, citing security sources, said that the suspect was apprehended on Monday along the Buni Gari–Buni Yadi road axis.

According to the report, the suspect was intercepted by troops while on routine security patrol and was found to be in possession of injuries believed to have resulted from prior contact with security forces.

Intelligence sources said preliminary questioning indicated that the suspect claimed to have relocated from Ganjarma village to a settlement along the Bara road axis, where he had reportedly stayed for about 10 days prior to his arrest.

“A preliminary assessment suggests the suspect may have links with ISWAP/JAS elements operating in the general area, and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of his involvement,” a security source said.

The suspect is currently in military custody undergoing further interrogation.
