Titans' leading tackler may miss time after UTV accident, concussion

The Tennessee Titans’ leading tackler from a year ago might be on the shelf to start the 2026 season.

Linebacker Cedric Gray entered the NFL’s concussion protocol, the team announced Sept. 7, following a UTV accident over the weekend.

“Over the weekend, Cedric Gray was involved in a UTV accident in Tennessee and sustained a concussion and minor injuries,” a statement from the Titans said. “We look forward to Cedric returning to the field soon and in full health when he clears the NFL’s concussion protocol.”

The Titans open Week 1, the first game of head coach Robert Saleh’s tenure, against the New York Jets on Sunday, Sept. 13.

A third-year player from the University of North Carolina, Gray led the Titans with 160 tackles last season, which ranked fifth in the league.

A UTV, also known as a side-by-side, is a larger vehicle with a steering wheel and designed to carry multiple riders. An ATV (all-terrain vehicle) is for one person. According to Progressive, ATVs are more for recreation, while UTVs are used for outdoor work such as farming and landscaping.
