As President Donald Trump arrived back in New York City to watch the New York Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals, he didn’t receive a warm response.
In fact, it appears that every corner of New York City, from the boroughs to Madison Square Garden, were letting Trump know that they didn’t appreciate his appearance.
President Donald Trump Hears It From NBA Onlookers
Rachel Nichols, longtime NBA reporter and Fox Sports 1 analyst, shared her observations of fans’ response to Trump showing up on the JumboTron at the Garden. Nichols posted on X, “Louder than the boos for the Spurs, louder than any boos I’ve heard in this building in a while.”
Fred Katz, senior NBA writer for The Athletic, posted on X about Trump’s appearance at the Garden. Katz wrote, “President Trump is shown on the jumbotron during the national anthem and receives loud boos.”
Esfandiar Baraheni, who writes NBA Daily for The Athletic, shared a video clip on X of the crowd’s reaction to Trump on the screen. Barasheni wrote on X, “Trump booed very loudly here at MSG”.
Sam Amick, senior NBA writer for The Athletic, also was present at Monday night’s Game 3. Amick posted on X, “Unmistakable boos for Trump when he’s shown on the MSG big screen.”
Call To Activism’s account on X posted, “HOLY S**T: The boos just happened AGAIN and Trump stops clapping as they get even LOUDER by the end of the clip. This is humiliating.”
An influencer on X posted this comment: “I’d boo Trump too if it took me two hours to get to my seats.”
Brian Krassenstein shared the video of Trump being booed and posted on X, “BREAKING: Massive BOOS erupt at Madison Square Garden as Trump is shown on the Jumbotron during the National Anthem. WOW. He has to be pissed off!”
MeidasTouch’s account on X also shared video of Trump being booed at Game 3. The account posted, “Trump was not only booed inside MSG, but throughout New York City simultaneously.”
Knicks fans have not hosted an NBA Finals game since 1999. They hope that they have a chance to celebrate a win on Monday night.
