EXCLUSIVE: Fans will get to see a different version of Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3, as the show dives deep into the fan-favorite character’s backstory.
It has already been four years since Morfydd Clark stepped into the role of Galadriel in Prime Video’s The Rings of Power. With her commanding presence and complex performance, Clark delivered fans a fresh perspective on Galadriel, who remains one of the most powerful characters in The Lord of the Rings franchise.
The hit show introduced the character as a fierce warrior who unexpectedly became instrumental in Sauron’s rise to power. After learning about his deception, Galadriel spent most of season 2 fighting for her redemption. This led Galadriel to a grueling sword duel against Sauron, who kept tempting her to become his queen. The Rings of Power season 2 ended with Galadriel getting ready to lead the Elven army once more into a long war after narrowly escaping death.
Now, with the upcoming release of The Rings of Power season 3, fans should expect to see a more multi-layered storyline for the Elven commander. In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Tatiana Hullender, Clark confirmed that season 3 will delve more into Galadriel’s history, highlighting her joy and naivety. She also shared that it was a fun experience to play the iconic character during the period of her life when she wasn’t consumed by vengeance and war.
It was wonderful to be able to explore Galadriel’s backstory even further back, and how full of joy she was before. We explore her in a part of her life where consequences haven’t happened yet. I feel, in life, there’s this moment where you’re like, ‘Oh, the decisions I make create the world that I’m going to be in.’ It was really fun to explore some naivety with her, and she’s also kind of freeing herself from the clutches of the darkness.

Before Clark landed the role in The Rings of Power, Galadriel was famously played by Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film franchise, as well as in The Hobbit trilogy. In contrast to Clark’s fiery portrayal, Blanchett’s version of Galadriel was presented as an ethereal and graceful queen who exuded wisdom and hope. Their difference is a testament to the iconic character’s growth and millennia-long experience as a leader.
The Rings of Power takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary book series, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It chronicles the creation of the magical rings that will dictate the course of the franchise, as well as the rise of the evil Sauron. The Rings of Power Season 3 will include a massive time jump, showcasing the power that he has amassed. It will also finally feature the forging of the infamous One Ring, which will lead all the free peoples of Middle-earth to unite as they must find a way to stop Sauron’s evil plans.
The Lord of the Rings spin-off series hails from showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Apart from Clark, the show also stars Robert Aramayo, Benjamin Walker, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charlie Vickers, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Maxim Baldry, Sophia Nomvete, Ciarán Hinds, and Daniel Weyman. Season 3 will also introduce new cast members Eddie Marsan, Andrew Richardson, Adam Young, Zubin Varla, Simon Pegg, and Jamie Campbell Bower, with the latter set to play Galadriel’s long-lost husband Celeborn.
The first four episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 will officially be released on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, on Prime Video.
