The Financial Times strikes a different tone with its headline “Trump makes Iran truce demands”. It says the president has reiterated that Tehran must never have a nuclear weapon.
Sir Keir Starmer has warned that Vladimir Putin poses a threat to European security, according to the Daily Mirror. The comments came after a Russian drone flew into a block of flats in Romania. The paper’s front page shows a picture of the damaged building.
The Daily Mail describes a decision to not seek a third trial against two brothers accused of assaulting police officers at Manchester Airport as “an affront to justice”. It says senior Conservative and Reform UK politicians have described the move as “disgraceful” and “completely wrong”. Both men denied assaulting a male officer and two juries were unable to reach verdicts.
The Times highlights a link between a rise in cancer cases among women under 50 and poor sleep. Scientists in the US collected data from 19 million people between 2021 and this year. According to the paper, they found that patients with insomnia were three times more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Guardian says a new test can decide which breast cancer patients need chemotherapy, and which don’t. According to its report, a global trial suggests millions of women could safely avoid the treatment, without increasing the risk of the cancer returning.
Sales of condoms in China have fallen sharply, according to the Financial Times, after the government removed a long-running tax exemption as part of efforts to boost the country’s birth rate. The report says a leading brand saw its sales drop by 5%. China’s birth rate hit a record low last year.
