Before the season began, the Milwaukee Brewers traded Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets.
The trade itself should not have come as too much of a surprise, as he was one year away from free agency, and the Brewers had done the same with Corbin Burnes, Devin Williams and Josh Hader. Peralta struggled with the Mets, and the Brewers looked like geniuses for dealing him.
However, the Tampa Bay Rays went and got him from the Mets at the trade deadline, and he turned things around. Peralta went from looking like a player who was going to need to sign a prove-it style deal to someone who now seems poised to get paid handsomely.
Peralta spoke to reporters on Thursday and made it clear that he wants to stay in Tampa Bay.
Freddy Peralta Sends Message To Rays
“I’m very comfortable here, and I would love to stay here for the rest of my career,” Peralta told “Foul Territory.” “There are a lot of people that I love here, and a lot of people that care about each other. I think they’re very smart. They know what they are doing.”
Peralta noted that he thinks the Rays will help him get even better, and the fact that he already lives in Florida. The only problem is that he seems poised for a nine-figure deal, and the Rays are not a team that typically gives out that kind of money.
Peralta won the American League Championship Series MVP Award and has been very important to this run by the Rays. The ball is in the Rays’ court now, and if they can make a competitive offer, Peralta will be interested in accepting it.
