The Original Witcher Officially Returns Next Month With New Release

· · 5 min read

The ORIGINAL Witcher is returning with a brand-new release this December. So if you’re a fan of Geralt of Rivia at his best, you’ll want to keep this release on your radar. It will remind you what made the character and world Andrzej Sapkowski created such a pop culture phenomenon in the first place.

Before Liam Hemsworth, there was Henry Cavill, and before Henry Cavill, there was Doug Cockle. Before Doug Cockle, there was Michał Żebrowski. In short, several men have brought Geralt of Rivia to life, whether through live-action performances or voice acting alone. However, before all these legends, there was Andrzej Sapkowski, the brilliant mind behind The Witcher. Now, Sapkowski’s original The Witcher is returning this December with a brand-new release that die-hard fans won’t want to miss.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise’s origins, The Witcher legacy began long before Netflix’s live-action adaptation and even before the legendary video games. In fact, Geralt of Rivia first appeared in The Witcher (Wiedźmin), an original short story published in 1986. This was followed by several more short stories, eventually collected in Sword of Destiny and The Last Wish. The franchise then expanded into a Polish comic series before developing into the novels that fans know and love today: Blood of Elves, Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and The Lady of the Lake.

These books served as the source material and inspiration for what would eventually become a hit video game franchise and live-action TV series. Now, Andrzej Sapkowski’s acclaimed short story collection The Last Wish is coming in a new format on December 15, 2026, giving fans the chance to experience this iconic collection like never before.

Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher: The Last Wish — The Complete Collection HC will hit comic book shelves this December, delivering a complete graphic novel adaptation of Sapkowski’s acclaimed short story collection in a prestigious oversized deluxe hardcover format. Fans should note that this is NOT simply a reprinting of previously published material. This edition will feature completely new cover art with foil stamping, silver foil-gilded edges, a cover gallery, a sketchbook section, and even a ribbon bookmark. But wait, there’s more!

In addition to collecting the six graphic novel adaptations of Sapkowski’s short stories, The Witcher, A Grain of Truth, The Lesser Evil, A Question of Price, The Edge of the World, and The Last Wish, this premium tome ties each story together with “the new, never-before-published adaptation of the framing story The Voice of Reason.” This is especially exciting, as it lets fans experience the classic collection in a way they haven’t before.

Also notable is the fact that this hardcover edition will feature a foreword by internationally bestselling author Peter V. Brett (The Demon Cycle). This special edition arrives as part of Dark Horse’s celebration of the 40th anniversary of Sapkowski’s Wiedźmin, the story that started what has since become one of the dominant franchises in the dark fantasy genre. It’s an exceptional journey, especially since the story first debuted in the Polish fantasy magazine Fantastyka and has since expanded to dominate gaming platforms, bookshelves worldwide, and Netflix.

Geralt is caught between violent feuds, beastly curses, and the confines of destiny in these tales of tragedy, passion, and bloodlust. Geralt sets out to claim a bounty on a bloodthirsty creature, but he is to cure the monstrosity, not slay it, for the creature is said to be retribution for the king’s dark secret. Next, Geralt encounters a beast with the faculties of man and discovers that within fairy tales, the truth is revealed.

Then, superstitions of an inborn evil pit a mage against a young woman, but with each committing acts of cruelty and carnage, who is the true evil? And fate plays a hand at a banquet to find a suitor for the princess when a mysterious guest ignites chaos within the royal family. In another story, Geralt and Dandelion search for a devil who they are to cast out, but not kill. Finally, witness Geralt and the sorceress Yennefer’s first encounter as they battle a djinn whose power lies beyond granting wishes.

In this edition, readers can expect exceptional quality, thanks to the long list of A-list creators who contributed to the project. The creative team includes writers Andrzej Sapkowski, Jacek Rembis, Magdalena Salik, Marta Krajewska, Aleksandra Zielinska, Marcin Zwierzchowski, and Milena Zając; artists Jonas Scharf, Adam Gorham, Tommaso Bennato, Matteo Bellisario, Michael Dowling, Guillermo Fajardo, and Fabiana Mascolo; colorists José Villarrubia, Patricio Delpeche, Chris O’Halloran, Igor Monti, Luis NCT, Neeraj Menon, and Fabiana Mascolo; letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou; and cover artist Kai Carpenter.

So, if you’re desperate for more classic Witcher that truly captures the original feel and source material while presenting it in a fresh format, this upcoming collector’s edition is a no-brainer.
