The mistake that has previously seen Wyndham Clark disqualified from both The Players and the Genesis Invitational

While his record says otherwise, Wyndham Clark was certainly one of Team USA’s most impressive performers at the Presidents Cup.

Clark looked prepared to step up and deliver for Brandt Snedeker’s side. He seemed to barely miss a putt over the first two days at Medinah as the Americans just about went on to continue their dominance in the event.

Of course, Clark is now a two-time US Open champion. Only Scottie Scheffler on the American team had won more majors than the 32-year-old. It has been a rapid rise for Clark, who had not won on the PGA Tour before 2023.

He has clearly learned a lot, including making sure that he signs for the correct score.

The two PGA Tour events Wyndham Clark has been disqualified from during his career

Bizarrely, Wyndham Clark has twice been disqualified from PGA Tour events for signing for the wrong score.

He marked his Players Championship debut in 2019 by being thrown out after the opening round. Clark had incorrectly signed for a round of 79, when it turned out that it was actually one shot worse.

Clark made eight bogeys and a double bogey. However, his bogey on the par-four fourth had been marked down as a par. With that, he went home one round sooner than he probably would have done.

Fast forward to the 2022 Genesis Invitational and Clark was once again disqualified from the event after the opening round. He had signed for the wrong score after posting a score of 77 on Thursday at Riviera.

Wyndham Clark has a difficult relationship with The Players Championship

Clark would actually struggle at TPC Sawgrass for several years. He missed the cut in both 2021 and 2022. And he would withdraw during the second round in 2025 due to a neck injury.

By far his best result at the PGA Tour’s flagship event came in 2024 when he finished tied for second. He had led after each of the first two rounds, while he was just one shot back of Xander Schauffele heading into Sunday.

However, a 64 in the final round from Scottie Scheffler saw the world number one take the lead. Cruelly, Clark’s birdie putt on the 72nd hole to make it into a playoff with Scheffler lipped out.

Based on his recent form, Clark will certainly fancy his chances of going one better when he returns to Sawgrass next year.
