After coming up short against the Atlanta Braves in surprising fashion, with Phillies news: Bryce Harper says quietAustin Riley flipping the script with a three-run homer in the eighth to take the 1-0 lead, Bryce Harper was left crestfallen in the Philadelphia Phillies clubhouse.
Discussing the shocking loss and what it means for the Phillies’ World Series chances, Harper noted it was a dagger, but made a point to note that his team hopes to flush it and move forward as quickly as possible.
“Yeah, that’s a dagger. You know, obviously, we have a lead going into eighth, you know, best closer in the game on the bump,” Harper said. “You know, Riley just got to it, so just got to flush as quick as possible and, you know, get into

Is flushing such a brutal loss easier said than done, especially considering how close Philly came to victory? Harper weighed in on that too, noting that it’s the Phillies’ job to keep the season alive and then go from there in Game 3.
“Yeah, I mean, obviously, I thought we had some great at-bats against Selvig today. You know, I thought we had great at-bats all around. You know, get the lead, and like you said, lose it late,” Harper said. “But you got to flush as quick as possible. Obviously, that’s a really good team over there. They’re going to be coming to beat us tomorrow. And, you know, we just got to prolong our season, you know, another day. So, just got to play baseball and, you know, try to prolong it.”
Over the last 24 Wild Card Series, the team that won Game 1 advanced to the Division Series 21 times. Will the Phillies be one of the rare exceptions to that rule? Harper certainly hopes so.
