‘The kind of player that I love’ – Maresca excited by potential of young City star

Enzo Maresca has heaped praise on Manchester City youngster Ryan McAidoo ahead of the club’s Carabao Cup clash with Norwich, describing the winger as exactly the type of player he likes.

The 18-year-old is expected to start for City against Norwich in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night and has already made two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

“With Ryan Mcaidoo, if you remember one of my first press conferences, I said that he’s the kind of winger that I love,” Maresca said.

“Because he’s not scared, he wants the ball, he will always be aggressive, 1v1, 1v1, 1v1.

“Sometimes you see a winger that they receive the ball, they’re there and they play back. Ryan receives the ball, go forward, go forward.”

The City boss added: “I think the two games that he played some minutes in the Premier League, it was good and nothing changed with him.”

McAidoo is among three players to be promoted from the academy to the first team by Maresca this summer. Floyd Samba and Kaden Braithwaite also made the step up and will be in line for minutes in the cup clash with Norwich.

“Both physically, they are very strong,” the Italian coach said of Samba and Braithwaite. “Then Floyd is an attacking midfielder, arriving in the box, good finish, so can be a good profile.

“And Kaden, again, physically strong. I think he can be a central defender, full-back, he needs to learn, but he can be both, he can play in both positions.

“Because they are from the academy, the feeling, I think, for them is different.

“If you speak with Phil (Foden), City is his club. If you speak with another player that is not from the academy, probably his club is another one. So they feel in a different way.”
