The Hunger Games Franchise Is Officially Leaving A Free Streaming Home This Week

One of the biggest dystopian sci-fi movie franchises is currently available to stream for free in its entirety, but it won’t be much longer. The series includes five movies that brought a futuristic universe to life with major stars. It became an incredible success, grossing $3.3 billion worldwide, and still has another movie on the way.

Hollywood loves to explore various aspects of science fiction, with Blade Runner, Mad Max, and The Matrix being some of the most iconic franchises born from dystopian stories. Each of those has continued in the last decade, but none of the relaunches proved to be big enough to support ongoing returns to those worlds.

Divergent and Maze Runner are two more recent examples of dystopian sci-fi franchises that started strong. Both were YA book adaptations, using familiar source material and plenty of action to attract audiences in the 2010s. Both became key IP for 20th Century and Lionsgate in the hopes of replicating the success of the century’s biggest dystopian series, Hunger Games.

Suzanne Collins’ books gave way to a lucrative dystopian sci-fi franchise that remains incredibly popular to this day. Audiences are preparing to return to the world of Panem and the Hunger Games once again with a new movie coming out next month, and that means franchise rewatches. Anyone wanting to watch the Hunger Games movies in order on streaming can do so for free for a limited time.

As part of the studio’s preparations for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping‘s release on November 20, Lionsgate brokered a deal with Fandango to have all Hunger Games movies stream for free in October. The studio announced that anyone could watch each film in the franchise on Fandango’s free streaming app and website starting on October 16.

From that moment, and through today, that means 2012’s The Hunger Games, 2013’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, 2014’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, 2015’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, and 2023’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes can be streamed for free.

Users do not even need an account on Fandango to watch each movie. They are all streaming for free, but with ads, and in 4K UHD. The availability is meant to encourage more people to watch the best Hunger Games movies before Sunrise on the Reaping, with a trailer for the new movie playing before the start of each film.

Hunger Games’ Free Streaming Release Is Ending Soon, But A New Destination Is Confirmed

The free streaming availability of every Hunger Games movie is coming to an end, though. The deal with Lionsgate and Fandango ran from October 16 through October 31. The films will no longer be available on Fandango once November comes around. That leaves you with just a few days to watch select entries or the entire franchise for free.

If you want to watch any of the films before the free streaming release ends, download the Fandango app or click the links below:

With so little time to watch all five movies, the good news is that Hunger Games has a new streaming destination coming. It is confirmed that all installments will start streaming on Peacock in November, with every film arriving on the 14th. That will give fans less than one week to watch the whole franchise before Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters.

Rather than wait another few weeks to start a Hunger Games rewatch, everyone can take advantage of the remaining time they are streaming for free and start prepping for Sunrise on the Reaping a bit earlier.
