The Hoddle of Coffee: Tottenham Hotspur News and Links for Monday, August 10

Good morning everyone –

The most recent week was an interesting one for us Grateful Dead fans everywhere. It always is. August 1 through the 9th mark what we refer to as the “Days Between”, which marks the day of Jerry Garcia’s birth (the 1st) and the day he checked out (the 9th).

It’s a haunting name for a period. Deadheads might also be aware of the song for which this period is referred to. Days Between is a haunting 13-minute track written by Robert Hunter and sung by Garcia, in what feels like a slow walk from rowdy teenage days to the darkening. There is no studio version of it.

I’ll throw on a record or two. Heck, maybe I’ll put together another Grateful Dead playlist of my own. I’ll comb through the latest Grateful Dead article on Rolling Stones (this time ranking their Top 100 songs – a wonderful read even if I have a couple issues. But I digress) or even NPR.

I told a couple people this Days Between hits a little different. It’s the first since Bob Weir died exactly eight months ago. Still hard to believe.

It isn’t easy to resist asking what comes next, but I’m trying. Til then I’ll keep with the music.
