The Elder Scrolls: Shadows Of Oblivion Officially Launches November 30

Being a fan of The Elder Scrolls is a lesson in patience as, at the time of writing, it has been fifteen years since the launch of the most recent entry, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and now, despite the next installment, The Elder Scrolls VI, being announced back in 2018, we are still waiting for that elusive release date, or even a release window.

However, despite Bethesda reportedly working hard behind the scenes, The Elder Scrolls VI is seemingly no closer to launch despite it being a priority for the studio after the launch of Starfield. Not only that, but with major studios such as BioWare shutting up shop in recent weeks, leading to Mass Effect 5 being canceled, fans are understandably worried that the same could happen for TES VI.

At the time of writing, The Elder Scrolls VI is still in development, but in the meantime, there is another exciting release to look forward to, and it arrives this month.

Courtesy of Zatu Games, The Elder Scrolls: Shadows of Oblivion is an upcoming board game inspired by The Elder Scrolls universe. Marketed for 1-4 players with each game lasting around 120-150 minutes, Shadows of Oblivion launches alongside unique componentry which allows players to adjust their gameplay experience, meaning that the replayability options are endless.

Retailing at just £20.99, The Elder Scrolls: Shadows of Oblivion‘s official item description reads as follows:

The Daedric princes rule their respective planes of Oblivion, and their influence over mortals cannot be understated.

Whether summoned to Tamriel for worship or study, these entities of great power will frequently strike deals and make pacts with those who dare.

Such a bargain is laced with poison and sure to bring misery, but a serious adventurer doesn’t dismiss any potential advantage, and the prospect of wielding Daedric power is intoxicating!

Each of the five Daedric princes comes with something akin to a side quest, offering a blessing and a curse. It’s recommended that adventurers play with both, but those looking to further manipulate the game’s difficulty could choose one or the other.

What many may not know, however, is that The Elder Scrolls: Shadows of Oblivion actually serves as an expansion for Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era‘s Heroes of Tamriel, the board game by Chip Theory Games that first launched back in 2025 following a successful Gamefound campaign. As such, Shadows of Oblivion is just one of many expansions that have followed, with the Heroes of Tamriel set currently consisting of five expansions. This new set will include:

  • Daedric prince-focused expansion
  • Enemy chips
  • Eight skill dice
  • Eight fatigue dice
  • New hedonism mechanic

Better yet, whilst The Elder Scrolls: Shadows of Oblivion is available for pre-order now, you will only need to wait until 30 November to get your hands on it. It may not be the launch of The Elder Scrolls VI, but it is definitely the next best thing, especially for those who can gather their friends and embark on an adventure through the fantasy lands.
